The GreenBag originated in Ireland in the year 2000 as a result of a design project by the Superquinn Group and T S O'Connor & Son Ltd. The idea was prompted by the introduction of a tax on all polythene carrier bags in Ireland by the Irish Government. This tax cut the use of plastic bags by more than 90% and the GreenBag culture was established.
